TN April 26 - Confirming Rosters + Practice + Tournament Schedule

Hello all,

First off, I just want to thank everyone who made it out Sunday night. I was extremely impressed with the work ethic, positivity, and overall skill level with all of our participants. I really enjoyed it and hope your sons did too.

We are doing our best to plan out a successful summer schedule for True North. I want to get out information as soon as possible so that everyone can plan accordingly for the summer. We understand that there may be conflicts but we are trying to do our best to accommodate everyone. We have put together a tentative practice schedule to go along with our 3 tournaments.

Here's what it will look like:

Practice 1 *UPDATE MAY 11* Reilly and Brodie are both un-available this weekend due to NLL playoffs and MLL. We decided it was best to RESCHEDULE this practice as Brodie and I would like to be present for all TN practices, sorry for the inconvienence* - Reilly

So yes, that does mean NO PRACTICE THIS WEEKEND (April 29 - May 1)

The reason for the change is to avoid OMFL conflicts as well as allow more time to get numbers up. Again, if you have a conflict and have to miss a practice we understand, it is not a huge deal.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 03/24/2016

REILLY O’CONNOR NAMED TRUE NORTH LACROSSE DIRECTOR

Georgetown Grad, NLL Pro and Hill Academy Coach named new Lacrosse Director

Oakville, ON – True North Lacrosse today announced Reilly O’Connor as their new lacrosse director for the upcoming 2016 Spring-Summer season. O’Connor will oversee the growth and development of the Canadian based club lacrosse program that is headed by lacrosse star, Brodie Merrill.

O’Connor, a native of Brooklin, Ontario and product of Whitby Minor Lacrosse boasts an impressive lacrosse background that makes him a perfect fit for True North Lacrosse, a program that recently introduced club teams in 2015. A recent graduate of Georgetown University, Reilly played four years for the Hoyas, including two as team captain. Reilly was also named the team’s most outstanding offensive player and received the team’s leadership award. O’Connor was selected by the NLL Calgary Roughnecks in the 1st round of the 2015 NLL Draft, 7th overall. As a rookie, in 12 games this season, Reilly has tallied 5g, 21 assists with 45 SOG while scooping 37 LB. Prior to being drafted, O’Connor won two Minto Cups with his hometown Whitby Warriors and was named the league’s most outstanding player, first team all-star and led Jr.A in scoring. In 2012, Reilly represented Team Canada at the U19 World Championships, where he was named to the All-World team as an attackman.

An alumnus of the prestigious Hill Academy, Reilly returned this year to assume a coaching role with The Pride. The #1 ranked prep school team in North America recently returned from their Spring Break trip, amassing a total record of 5-0 (Varsity) and 7-0 (JV) playing against top ranked Mid-Atlantic prep schools.  Reunited with former coach and mentor Brodie Merrill, Reilly has thrived this year in a coaching capacity where he trains and develops many of Ontario’s top student athletes.

True North Owner and Hill Academy Lacrosse Director, Brodie Merrill, coached Reilly for two seasons at the Hill Academy and was instrumental in his development and recruitment to his alma mater, Georgetown University. Merrill has seen Reilly mature and develop from high school student, to college athlete, to competitor now in the NLL. When the opportunity to bring Reilly on board with True North Lacrosse presented itself, Brodie knew that Reilly would be the perfect fit.

"We are excited to expand Reilly's role with True North.  Reilly has been a leader at every level throughout his career.  He has a unique passion for the game and thinks the game at an extremely high level--these qualities really come through in his coaching.  He will be a great example for all young lacrosse players in the True North program. "

Effective immediately, Reilly will assume the position with True North Lacrosse. Look for 2016 Spring tryout info and details to be announced shortly as Reilly settles into his new role.

"I am thrilled to be coming on board with True North Lacrosse. I look forward to the opportunity of continuing to build a program that's main focus is in player development. We will provide kids with the opportunity to succeed and achieve their goals of reaching the next level through high level coaching and a very competitive schedule."

The True North Lacrosse Club is a youth lacrosse program in Ontario that develops high calibre student athletes and helps them to reach their maximum potential on the field and in the classroom. The True North Lacrosse Club will serve as an affiliate and development program to the Edge Lacrosse program and the Hill Academy that promotes elite student athletes and provides them opportunities to play in high profile recruiting tournaments in front of college recruiters and coaches. True North Lacrosse Club will proudly support the Chris Sanderson Memorial Trust.

True North Lacrosse will offer teams at U9, U11, U13 and U15 this season. Teams will host 4-5 practices this season and travel to the US 2-3 times for competitive US tournaments. 2016 Spring tryout info and registration will be posted online at www.tnlacrosse.com shortly. 2015 Fall Season Tryouts!

I hope everyone is enjoying the last few weeks of summer. The Spring/Summer season is an exciting and busy time for lacrosse families. Between Spring field, summer box, and club travel, it doesn't leave much free time.

I wanted to thank and acknowledge all of our families and participants from this spring/summer for your support and commitment of the program. It is my hope that your son had fun, developed and learned something through practice and competition.

We will be posting fall tryout info very soon, we are looking forward to continue the fall program for a 2nd season and hope to see you at tryouts.

Our fall season will be comprised of team practices and tournaments, with hockey commitments for a lot of players, it can be difficult to manage a busy practice/tournament schedule. We are doing our best to book weekends and schedule events that do not conflict with minor hockey events. We want the fall season to be an opportunity for youth lacrosse players to continue to develop and refine their skills and keep a stick in their hand.

Look for tryout info and registration to come out next week! In the meantime, enjoy a few days before the summer ends.

Spring is Here

Spring has arrived and for young lacrosse players, this is the best time of year. Every season brings on new opportunities and a fresh start to become the player that you want to be. It's another chance to grow, improve, compete, and add new dimensions to your game. If you practice with focus and purpose, the sky is the limit in terms of where you can take your game. This is an exciting prospect. It is completely in your hands.

For many young lacrosse players the goal is to one day play NCAA lacrosse. This is a great goal to have! Just remember, there is no easy path and no magic formula to make this a reality. It takes a lot of work, both on the field and in the classroom. All NCAA coaches are looking for STUDENT-athletes---"student" always coming first in the equation. It's important to establish a consistent routine where you are devoting sufficient amount of time to your studies and things that are going to help you achieve your goals.

The life of a student athlete is not an easy one. You have to embrace and enjoy the work and understand that it is very much worthwhile.

I can still remember my first True North experience as a player. The field game was a foreign concept to many of my peers and I. Every new skill we learned seemed like the coolest thing in the world. "Wrap checks, split dodges, shooting on the run" were new tools we could add to our arsenal. It was also fun going back to box with an added sense of confidence, incorporating things learned in the field game and applying to the box game.

We are entering the first Spring season since reintroducing True North and we couldn't be more excited. Hopefully you enjoy your experience as much as I enjoyed mine as a player. Chris Sanderson and True North opened new doors for so many young lacrosse players. We hope that True North can continue to be a stepping stone in terms of your growth as a player and potentially open up some doors that could lead down an exciting path.

Brodie

Clarification on AGE GROUPS for True North Club Teams

Hi Folks,

We've had a few inquiries into the age groups for True North Lacrosse as they are different than what we are used to here in Ontario and OMFLL.

As the True North teams are participating in US Lacrosse tournaments, we must follow the US Lacrosse Age groupings in order to ensure competitive and eligible teams.

US Lacrosse Age Groups:
U17 - Anyone born 1998/1999
U15 - Born on or after Sept 1st, 1999 - August 30th 2001
U13 - Born on or after Sept 1st, 2001 - August 30th 2003
U11 - Born on or after Sept 1st, 2003 - August 30th 2005

For any players who have a birthday after Sept 1st of 1999, 2001 or 2003, you may choose which age group you wish to tryout for. You will either be one of the youngest players in your age group, or one of the oldest. In some cases, our TN coaches may offer advice as to which may be most appropriate for you.

You can visit the US Lacrosse website for more specific details - http://www.uslacrosse.org/rules/age-eligibility-guidelines.aspx

How this differs from OMFL:
OMFL U17 - Anyone born 1999/2000
OMFL U15 - Anyone born 2001/2002
OMFL U13 - Anyone born 2003/2004
OMFL U11 - Anyone born 2005/2006 - we will welcome 2006 born players to tryout for the TN U11 team
